For those in the legal industry, stress is a common challenge. If you ever feel like you want to pull your hair out from managing extensive court demands, prepping for trial or are losing sleep over trying to keep your boss or clients happy, then you’ve experienced some of the many symptoms stress can bring. While a little bit of stress is normal and actually helps motivate most people, too much stress can negatively impact a person’s life.
At Elite Court Reporting, we know these challenges because we experience them ourselves. Yet we’re committed to reducing the level of stress in our lives and in the lives of those people we serve … so we’ve done our homework and road-tested a few stress-reducing techniques. We’ve experienced some great results and want to share our top tips with you!
1. Stay organized.
Whether it’s with a calendar, to-do list, planner or maybe a combination of all three, staying organized can impact your stress levels tremendously. When everything is accounted for and organized, there’s less to stress about.
2. Work with a mentor or become one yourself.
While it might seem like you’re already at capacity and you don’t want to add another task onto your plate, finding a mentor or becoming one yourself can actually provide a lot of value to your life and help lower your stress.
Being mentored and talking to another professional about your career trajectory and/or case issues can help ease your worries and lower your stress. On the flip side, becoming a mentor and having an impact on someone else’s life can bring you a great level of satisfaction and put your own stressors into perspective.
We have found that spending time once or twice a month to do this is the perfect amount to feel supported, refreshed and calm.
3. Have quality resources around you.
When you feel stressed, it always helps to know that there are people and organizations you can rely on for assistance. Having quality resources around you to perform duties that you don’t have time to do or simply don’t know how to do allows you to focus on what matters most: serving your clients.
At Elite Court Reporting, we like to think of ourselves as a quality court reporting resource for legal teams. Our friendly staff is standing by to provide you with the best court reporting services nationwide. We are 100% committed to reducing your stress by being the best business partner you work with.
4. Breathe.
Everyone does it and it’s kind of a necessity to live, but breathing is also a vital stress-reliever! If you’re starting to feel overwhelmed by your job, take a second and focus on your breathing. Here’s a technique to try: breathe in through your nose, hold it for three seconds and then slowly exhale through your lips, keeping your face relaxed. This technique is a surefire way to reduce stress. Plus, if you can’t commit to any of the other tips listed above, this is definitely one you can do without even thinking about it!
5. Bounce!
Stress creates an incredible amount of tension in our bodies. That tension leads to muscle soreness, rigidity, headaches and irritability. Over time stress creates physical imbalances in our neck, back, hips and even our feet! You can easily loosen up and eliminate the physical stress in your body by bouncing for one minute a couple times a day. It might sound silly, but it couldn’t be easier or more effective. Simply jump up and down in place for 60 seconds. Do this once an hour and in no time, you’ll be feeling great. It’s even more fun if you have a small rebounder.
Two of the key and immediate benefits of jumping are muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the brain. You’ll be more relaxed and smarter at the same time!
